The show was awesome and featured MoCs and kits built by members of the GFLTC and more! The pick a brick was somewhat cooperative too.

BRICK Creation Challenge Results

I, on behalf of Young LEGO Enthusiasts of Florida, participated at Hollywood, FL's BRICK Creation Challenge at the Art and Culture Center of Hollywood. since I was selectively placed into the 11-17 category, and I spent most of my contest time in the 1st floor, I can share the standings for the 11-17 and Team Categories.

11-17

Most Colorful: - 6 well done segments built with LEGO each having a brick-built person spelling 'People'

Most Creative: - A tan / red building consisting of many rooms and a great interior.

Most Complex: Mine. "Industrial City: A Community of Efficency" by me, the president of YLEF. - 2.5' x 2.5' of details from a minifig cleaning up a littered 3 track yard or an FEC contract driver to an FEC SD70M-2, a straddle crane, and two warehouses with trailers loading up with cargo.

Team

Most Colorful: - Generally a modified board game replicated to LEGO.

Most Creative: - A cool magician with a rabbit coming off his hat :P

Most Complex: A favorite of mine. A well built, artistic, DNA structure. It JUST LOOKED AWESOME.

However, though one team MoC did not win, I would like to also, to some extent, recognize two kids' job on a castle. The structure had a lot of playability, and used a wide assortment of colors including Sand Green, Dark Orange, Dark Red, Greys, Black, Tan, and even Dark Tan! IMO it should have been given Honorable Mention...

If possible, I would like to know more on the winners. I know one from 6-10, that WTC Structure. Perhaps names of such creation would be welcome. Congrats on the winners, and see you next competition.

LEGO Creation Challenge at Nathan Sawaya Exhibit

According to recent commentary and latest news, it has come to my attention that Nathan Sawaya, a popular artist that uses LEGO as his medium, is having his popular exhibit at the Art and Culture Center of Hollywood. Well, that's good news and I am going to see the exhibit tomorrow!

Furthermore, there is a LEGO Contest for the event. The Young LEGO Enthusiasts of Florida will be participating in the contest as a team group and we will be designing a special model solely using LEGO Bricks, Plates, Slopes, and many more elements like hinges, brackets, etc. All of us (Anthony, David, Julian, and myself) plus a new member (Mitchell) will be building the model.

The contest will be from August 8 to August 10, 2008. So see you at the Art and Culture Center of Hollywood!

Glad to be back! Anyway, I am finally building a new Cafe Corner style building with a starbucks in the first floor. The building will be in a number of colors, have interior details, and be shown on Friday's meeting.

Plant City Layout Report

On March 15th, the Greater Florida LEGO Train Club had a display at the HB Plant Railroad Historical Society Swap Meet and Train Show, and I had a blast! There were 4 loops of running trains and models built and/or supervised by Robin, Aaron, Scott, and KK. Plus, my CSX Manifest was rolling down the track. Thanks for the great day guys!

The Young LEGO Enthusiasts of Florida...

...have a one-year anniversary today! :) My LEGO fan club celebrated our anniversary with a meeting last Saturday, and that was a fun celebration. We have had a great year with the improvements of the LEGO Layout. A friend of mine and myself founded the club on March 4 2007. Perhaps a video will go up soon.

I may try a new meeting approach...

For the last 5 months, the Young LEGO Enthusiasts of Florida have met at a nearby Starbucks location commonly on Friday nights. However, only Diego and I have met about, say, 90 % of the time. Thus, I may provide new meetings on various days at different places in order to improve the meeting concept.

1st Anniversary Nearing

That's right folks, the Young LEGO Enthusiasts of Florida club is about to be a year old! Anthony V. and I founded the club on March 4, 2007. I plan a special model and some goodies for the year. However, the club was on its planning stages until its boom on September 21, 2007.
